DAY PREP – 08/31/17

The Twin Falls County Fair continues today in Filer with the fair buildings opening up at 10am and the carnival at 3p.  This year’s fair features the Magic Valley Stampede PRCA Rodeo tonight, tomorrow and Saturday night, and Trace Adkins live in concert on Sunday.  For tickets and more fair information, visit tfcfair.com.  Gates open up this morning at 7 o’clock.

An informational meeting about the new partnership between Harmony Education and the Twin Falls School District will be held this morning from 10:30 'til noon in the Event Room at the  Twin Falls Public Library.  The meeting will explain how Harmony Education works to provide homeschoolers with access to curriculum and resources that they may not otherwise have - and you'll have a chance to ask any questions you might have if you're interested in homeschooling your kids.

All day Saturday, it’s Jammin’ In The Park at Hagerman City Park.  The event features live music, karaoke contests, kids activities, vendors and more.  The day gets underway with Coffee And Wheels from 7:30 ‘til 10.  Jammin’ In The Park is a free, family-friendly event open to the public.

Thursday’s Question of the Day:  Some friends of ours just introduced to the circle that they’re expecting their first baby.  They’re currently both working full time jobs out of the home, but they’re in a position to live on either her or his salary independently… so they’re going back and forth between both staying employed and looking at a babysitter, or if Mom, after maternity leave, should just become a stay at home mom. I’ve sensed a little jealousy from “Dad” who thinks that if his wife becomes the stay at home mom, she’ll get an easy ride– but agrees that it might be better for their daughter-to-be to grow up for the first few years with Mom full-time rather than a babysitter.  I was quick to reassure him that a stay-at-home mom or dad does NOT get the easy ride – in fact, it’s the opposite.  My wife has been a stay at home mom ever since our son was born almost six years ago, and I most of the time think she’s got it worse than I do when it comes to “workload.”  What do you think is the TOUGHER role?  A parent who works full time but misses out on being there 24/7 and sends their kid(s) to daycare, or a stay-at-home parent who has the benefit of being there for every moment of those first few years but has the many commitments that come along with serving the baby and the home full time?  (Broc) (Join the conversation on our Facebook page!)

HOLLYWOOD

One of them sleazy not-so-reliable Hollywood tabloids is reporting that Miranda Lambert is desperate to meet ith Blake Shelton after his reported split from Voice co-star Gwen Stefani.  It’s been more than two years since Blake and Miranda split and divorced, but she’s finally ready to sit down and hash things out - this according to a new report that doesn't identify the source.  This so-called "source" says “There’s still a lot of unfinished business between [Miranda] and Blake. She needs to look straight into Blake’s eyes, ask certain questions, and get answers.”  The source goes on to say that Miranda is very happy with her man, Anderson East, but feels a face-to-face with Blake is what she needs to fully be ready to commit to another relationship.

YouTube star Todrick Hall revealed in a new interview that he was sworn to secrecy after filming his stint as a backup dancer in Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" music video in May.  He said "It was the hardest secret ever to keep, but I know how I am as an artist and when I'm creating stuff, even if it's just on my YouTube channel, I don't want anyone to tell anything, I don't want anybody to post a Snapchat or a picture."  Since its premiere, "Look What You Made Me Do" has become YouTube's most-viewed music video in a 24-hour period with an astounding 43.2 million views.

Bots have ruined a good thing once again.  Tickets for Bruce Springsteen’s eight-week run of Broadway shows went on sale yesterday morning, and despite the efforts of Ticketmaster’s “Verified Fan” program, they were available almost immediately on secondary-market websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats for thousands of dollars.  Ten minutes after they went on sale, StubHub listed a pair of “Springsteen on Broadway” tickets at the 975-capacity Walter Kerr Theatre for $6,700.  Several dates on Vivid Seats are listing front row center orchestra by unknown sellers with prices ranging from $9,000 to as “low” as $6,000.  What I want to know is this - what ever happened to ticket scalping laws?  I can remember a time when if I stood outside the Fargodome and tried to resell my Pearl Jam tickets, it could lead to fines and jail time.  When did that law of morality go out the window?
